Submit your bold ideas now for transformative research awards
By Geoff Spencer
Associate Communications Director for Extramural Research
Researchers with bold, paradigm-shifting ideas that will accelerate the translation of research into improved health outcomes can now apply for up to $25 million from the NIH Director's Transformative Research Award Inititative.
The Transformative Research Awards Initiative, part of the NIH Common Fund, encourages applications from investigators in the biological, behavioral, clinical, social, physical, chemical, computational, engineering and mathematical sciences. The Common Fund also encourages applications from multiple principal investigators and from multi- or inter-disciplinary teams. One-third of the total fiscal year 2012 funding budget will go to projects with more than $1 million in direct costs.
The deadline for submitting applications is Jan. 12, 2012, with letters of intent due by Dec. 12, 2011. See the instructions at NIH Director's Transformative Research Awards.
Additional information, including Frequently Asked Questions about the NIH Transformative Research Awards Initiative, is available at: http://commonfund.nih.gov/TRA. Send questions to Transformative_Awards@mail.nih.gov.
