1998: New HGP Goals for 2003
All of the major goals of the previous five-year plan having been met, in October 1998, the new five-year plan for the HGP predicted completion of human sequencing in 2003, two years ahead of schedule. The NIH and DOE plan, for the period between 1998 to 2003, emphasized finishing human genome sequencing. Other goals included beginning work on the mouse genome and studying human genome sequence variations.
