The first talk for the seminar series: A Quarter Century after the Human Genome Project's Launch: Lessons Beyond the Base Pairs." The December 3 program featured Human Genome Project participants and former NHGRI Deputy Directors Elke Jordan, Ph.D. and Mark Guyer, Ph.D., who shared their perspectives about the HGP and how it affected their careers.The series will continue in early 2016, with lectures taking place on Thursday afternoons from 2 to 3 p.m. in Lipsett Amphitheater in Building 10 on the main NIH campus All seminars are free and open to the public.

What's a Gene? - June 2013
In 1909, Danish botanist Wilhelm Johannsen coined the word "gene" to describe Mendelian units of heredity. As researchers learned more, they began to define genes as a segment of a DNA molecule that contains information for making a protein or, sometimes, an RNA molecule. Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3Africa) Welcome Message - September 21, 2011
Dr. Green welcomes H3Africa staff at a meeting for applicants to the H3Africa NIH Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOA). Held in Nairobi, Kenya, the meeting presented information about the FOA and gave applicants an opportunity to discuss the FOA with NIH staff. H3Africa is a contemporary research approach to studying genomics and environmental determinants of common diseases to improve the health of African populations.

10K Genomes Project to Create Vertebrate Genome Zoo - November 2009
As DNA sequencing costs decline, a group of research biologists has pondered reading evolution's notebooks in the genomes of thousands of vertebrate species.
