Attendees were honored to host the President of Mauritius, Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim (front row, third from right), at this meeting. Dr. Gurib-Fakim delivered the opening address for the meeting, highlighting the significance of this initiative in supporting African youth, encouraging them to remain on the continent to contribute their expertise. Additionally, Her Excellency emphasized the great need for communication and understanding between genomics academic community, the public, policy-makers, philanthropists, and the commercial sector. She also expressed the need for African governments to make greater efforts to support H3Africa.
Center for Research on Genomics and Global Health (CRGGH) Director, Dr. Charles Rotimi (front row, fourth from left), and Deputy Director, Dr. Adebowale Adeyemo, attended the meeting. According to Dr. Rotimi, "the event was a resounding success and it was absolute joy to meet the president and the ethnically diverse and friendly people of Mauritius."
