Shirley Tilghman, president emerita at Princeton University, reflects on three big achievements of the Human Genome Project (HGP): (1) It taught us how to ask really big questions and how to answer them by working together collectively in teams.  (2) It not only gave us all of the information in the human genome, but it also gave us information about model organisms and obscure organisms. (3) It opened biology to quantitative approaches.
