News Release
In a new large-scale genetic analysis, National Institutes of Health (NIH) scientists have found set of small RNA molecules, called microRNAs, in human pancreatic cells that are strongly associated with type 2 diabetes.
Event
Join us on Wednesday, May 25, as scholars and scientists answer audience questions and address the complexities surrounding historical and present-day eugenics and scientific racism in the context of existing and developing genetic and genomic screening technologies.
Profile
David Bodine, founder of the Hematopoiesis Section and chief of the Genetics and Molecular Biology Branch, advanced the fields of gene therapy and hematology in his 38 years at the NIH. Now, he plans to continue his contributions to science as an emeritus and through training the next generation of scientists.

News Release
NIH researchers have successfully identified differences in gene activity in the brains of people with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The study, led by scientists at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), found that individuals diagnosed with ADHD had differences in genes that code for known chemicals that brain cells use to communicate.
Virtual Exhibit
The Gene Sweepstakes — or GeneSweep as it became popularly known — was a three-year-long, sweepstakes-style contest organized by British bioinformatician Ewan Birney, Ph.D., of the European Bioinformatics Institute. Scientists participated in the contest by betting on the total number of protein-coding genes that would be identified in the human genome sequence generated by the Human Genome Project.
Jobs at NHGRI
NHGRI has four position openings for Health Scientist Administrators (Program Director and Scientific Review Officer). Program Director positions will have a special concentration in informatics and data science and will be located in the Division of Genomic Medicine, the Division of Genome Sciences, or the Office of Genomic Data Science. Scientific Review Officers will reside in the Division of Extramural Operations and will organize peer review meetings for all areas of genomic research at NHGRI.
