Dr. Daniel Gilchrist joined the National Human Genome Research Institute's Extramural Research Program as a program director in 2014. He manages a portfolio of grants focused on functional genomics and computational genomics and data science. He is also part of the NHGRI team managing the ENCODE project, which aims to identify all functional elements in the human and mouse genomes, and the IGVF consortium, which works towards systematic understanding of the effects of genomic variation on genome function and phenotype.
Prior to joining the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), Dr. Gilchrist was researcher at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, where he studied mechanisms of gene regulation.
Dr. Gilchrist received a B.S. in biology from Purdue University, a Ph.D. in biology from Stanford University, and completed postdoctoral research at NIEHS in the Laboratory of Molecular Carcinogenesis.
