Biography

Reagan Moseti Mogire is a postdoctoral research fellow with a background in medical biochemistry, molecular biology, and genetic epidemiology. Awarded a Ph.D. in Genetic Epidemiology by The Open University, UK, in 2022, he also holds an MSc in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from Pan African University and a BSc in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Nairobi. In his master's project, he used chemogenomic approaches to identify anti-malarial activities of approved drugs. His Ph.D. was focused on the epidemiology and genetic epidemiology of vitamin D deficiency in Africans, in which he described novel genetic variants associated with vitamin D status in African populations. After his PhD, Dr. Mogire was awarded a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship at the Kenya Medical Research Institute-Wellcome Trust Research Programme. During this period, he expanded his doctoral research into investigating the association between vitamin D status and the incidence of malaria and bacterial infections in children living Africa using Mendelian randomization analysis.

In 2023, Dr. Mogire joined the CRGGH, drawn to its comprehensive multi-omics approach to studying cardiometabolic traits and disorders. His focus at CRGGH centers on describing the complexities of cardiometabolic traits, with a particular emphasis on liver function and metabolomics within African American and African populations. Motivated by a commitment to address health outcome disparities, he aims to leverage his genomic and epidemiological research to convert scientific findings into measurable health improvements for communities that are historically underrepresented in genetic research.
