Antwi-Boasiako Oteng, Ph.D.

Antwi Oteng is a Research Fellow at the Center for Research on Genomics and Global Health (CRGGH) since August 2023. His primary role is to conduct studies in pre-clinical models to characterize the function of novel genes whose variants associate with cardiometabolic diseases in humans.

Prior to joining Dr Rotimi’s group at CRGGH, Dr Oteng received a BSc in Biochemistry in 2011 from the University of Ghana, an MSc in Molecular Life Science in 2014 from Wageningen University, Netherlands, and a PhD in Molecular Nutrition, Metabolism and Genomics in 2019 from Wageningen University. His doctoral work in the lab of Prof. Sander Kersten investigated the regulation of cellular lipid metabolism with a focus on trans fatty acids, as well as the therapeutic potential in targeting angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4) for cardiometabolic diseases.

In August 2021, Dr Oteng joined the lab of Dr Jurgen Wess at NIDDK, NIH, as a Postdoctoral Fellow to study how targeting the signaling of specific GPCRs in enteroendocrine K-cells, affect endogenous secretion of the incretin hormone, GIP, and the downstream effects on systemic glucose homeostasis in obesity and diabetes.
