Dr. Ian Nova joined the National Human Genome Research Institute’s Extramural Research Program as a program director in 2023. He manages a portfolio of grants in genomic technology development, focusing on novel tools for nucleic acid sequencing. He is also the program manager for the NHGRI Small Business Program, which awards grants to early-stage small businesses that fit NHGRI’s mission and vision.
Prior to joining NHGRI, Dr. Nova was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Bionanoscience at Delft University of Technology, where he developed new technologies for protein sequencing. He also worked as an academic researcher at the University of Washington, designing nanopore-based technologies for nucleic acid sequencing and single-molecule enzymology.
Dr. Nova received a B.S. in bioengineering from Santa Clara University and a Ph.D. in molecular engineering and sciences from the University of Washington. He completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience Delft at Delft University of Technology.
